In June of 1998, the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) enacted a series of changes and updates to the Toxic Control Substances Act (TSCA) with new guidance and requirements on the handling, characterization, decontamination and disposal of polychlorinated byphenyls (PCBs). These long awaited changes were cited in 40 CFR Part 761 and became known as the Mega Rule.
In an effort to provide guidance and compliance with the new laws, Enviro Jet designed and developed proprietary cleaning and decontamination technologies that offer full compliance with the Mega Rule. Our primary Mega Rule service is the cleaning and decontamination of natural gas pipelines and related fittings including valves, drip pots and associated service connections. Our cleaning technologies have been approved and permitted by the US EPA on a nationwide basis.
In addition to our pipeline cleaning services, we also provide decontamination of porous and non-porous surfaces, PCB containers and other PCB articles following either the measurement-based or self-implementing decontamination procedures of 40 CFR 761.79.
When following the requirements and operating conditions of our national permit as well as the Mega Rule, PCBs in the treated material will be decontaminated to levels less than 10 ug / 100cm2 or 50ppm. This level is considered “non-PCB”and the treated material is not regulated for disposal or distribution in commerce except for uses involving food, feed or drinking water.
